Fidani - Finest Chocolate Creations

This post is on my favourite food.

Question: What do you do when you receive a box of chocolates? Do you:

A. Store it away because the packaging is so nice and you can't bear to open it
B. Barely give it a second glance and give it away as a birthday present
C. Take a look at the label and go "Fidani????" What's Fidani???

or

D. Rip it open anyway BECAUSE IT'S CHOCOLATES!!!

I choose DDDDDDDD!!!

And...what do you do when you actually find a GOLDEN TICKET inside the box???

Gasp. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory dream come true.

I spent my days and nights dreaming about chocolate fountains, waterfalls and rivers at the Fidani factory - until the big CHOCOLATE VISIT day came.

Fidani is a local brand (surprise, surprise!) and a premium range of chocolate, which uses imported ingredients from Belgium. They use 100% cocoa butter in their products!!! (which is also why it's a premium range)

The chocolates are hand-made with utmost care and then carefully packed into stunning gift boxes. Yes, Fidani would certainly make a good gift for any event, be it large-scale weddings or even a simple birthday.

I'm saying this because it's true - and not just because I'm very partial to chocolates.

Charlie-and-the-Chocolate-Factory Day

We had to wake up real early to go to the chocolate factory, and I had just barely tumbled out of bed and pulled on something loose and comfortable (akin to pyjamas), when Nicholas arrived to pick me up.

No decent breakfast (a piece of bread hurriedly stuffed into the mouth does not count as breakfast), but who cares when you get CHOCOLATES for BREAKFAST???

As we proceeded to eat ourselves silly with chocolates, Chef Amer Hamzah did his best to appeal to our higher intellect - amidst the murkiness of clouded minds on a Saturday morning - by educating us on the history and origins of chocolates.

After a 101 on chocolates and....

30 pieces of chocolates later....

It's time for the factory tour! Lawatan sambil belajar!!! (Visit cum study)

Guess what's this? (Jie Jie said "tickets". I don't know what tickets she was thinking about.)

Tadaa! This is what it really is. We had to wear coats too - professional, eh?

All the chocolates in this factory are hand-made.

It's MY turn now to make my very own chocolates for the first time in my life!

First, I filled up this tray with the chocolate mix.

Scrape off the excess. I don't know why Elaine is so excited here.

Put it on the vibrating side trays to release any air bubbles trapped in the chocolate mix. Elaine is still very excited.

Draw whatever you like as a pattern! I used white chocolate.

To make the curlicue patterns, I had to use a satay-stick-lookalike.

It you really luuuurrrvveee NUTS, sprinkle them generously onto your chocolate.

Phew. VERY hard work. Chuck it in the fridge and let it harden.

Let's peek at Nicholas. Oooh, definitely for his girlfriend lah.

Chef Amer Hamzah decides to show us what the REAL thing is. He takes some white chocolate and proceeds to skillfully craft it into a....

...rose! The whole process only took him about 5 minutes.

Chocolate-making over - we're off to the packaging room now!

This machine is used to print the expiry dates on the boxes....

...and on humans too if you like.

Hand-packed chocolates

Buy, buy, buy!!!

Happy people

Do you notice our goodie bags?? Let's peek to see what was inside them....
